1956 Mercury Montclair Hardtop Coupe

J. J. Best Banc & Co.

The full-size top of the line Mercury Montclair was the newest model after the 1955 redesign. This Coupe shared the same body as the Ford Crown Victoria and was advertised as the lowest, sleekest coupe on the market at 56 inches. The Montclair had a V-8 engine with 210 horsepower. In 1956 Mercury produced 50,562 Montclair models.

The Montclair featured the very best Mercury had to offer, extra chrome trim and two-tone paint combinations. Standard features included a deep-dish steering wheel to insure driver safety from the steering column, safety door locks, a breakaway rear-view mirror, padded dashboard and optional seat belts. The dash panel was reconfigured with three-tier instrumentation.

This car is an original that spent its whole life in Arizona. It was a top of the line Mercury at the time. It has benefited from a professional repaint in its original colors of Heather Green and Verona Green. The striking colors turn heads wherever it goes. The original windshield has been replaced as has the rubber. The rest of the glass is perfect all around. The chrome and stainless are both excellent and both front and back bumpers have been rechromed and are in pristine condition.

The engine is very strong and does not smoke. It sat for a few years so the new owner rebuilt the carburetor and fuel system. The gas tank and radiator were recently replaced. The car runs cool as it should. The interior is totally original showing minimal wear. There are no tears or imperfections in the upholstery. The vinyl headliner is like new as is the padded dash. The instruments are clear and work except for the oil pressure gauge, a modern one has been added under the dash. The continental kit on the back is original equipment to this lovely car. It is a wonderful riding automobile and comfortable at highway speeds, it should give its next owner many miles of fun and enjoyment.
