1970 Jaguar XKE

a different cool factor
J. J. Best Banc & Co.

The continued evolution of the iconic Jaguar E-Type from the Series 1 meant that the Series 2 introduced in 1968 had an even more comfortable and reliable ride, coupled with superior performance, handling and appearance.

The earlier distinctive glass headlight covers were replaced with open lights, and other lighting was relocated and made larger. Additional design changes included a wraparound rear bumper and bigger, repositioned front indicators with the taillights below the bumper.

Twin electric fans and an enlarged grille aided cooling, and – for a different cool factor – rocket switches replaced the Series 1 toggle switches. A new collapsible steering column, combination steering lock and ignition key were also new to the Series 2.

This 1970 E-Type has an inline six-cylinder engine with two Stromberg carburetors, four-speed manual transmission, torsion bar independent front suspension, coil spring independent rear suspension and four-wheel hydraulic disk brakes.

Changed from its original color of silver blue, this sleek beauty underwent a professional restoration in Signal Red. The engine has been completely rebuilt and not driven often since. No expense was spared, and the engine and drivetrain have undergone extensive inspections and maintenance.

The radials are new, and the all-chrome wire wheels have been completely restored. The black leather shows extremely well, and the engine runs flawlessly. It’s easy to imagine this classic giving its new owner miles of driving pleasure.
