1947 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe

J. J. Best Banc & Co.

The Series 62 was the first Cadillac to return to production after World War II and, by 1947 (the last year of the second Series 62 generation), many changes distinguished this model’s convertible. In fact, its production in 1947 helped Cadillac surpass Packard as the best-selling American luxury car that year.

With modest design changes from 1946, the bold egg crate grille had one less horizontal bar, and the parking lights were now round. In 1946 the rear fender shields were rubber; the 1947 model had stainless steel ones.

This stunning beauty is as a fine example of Cadillac’s only open-body style for 1947.

Equipped with Hydramatic transmission and a 346 cu in engine, it runs well down the road at 60 mph. Other standard features include a radio, under-seat heater, Hydro-lectric window lifts and power top. Everything works, including the power windows and power seat, and all the gauges are clear. Adding to its classic look are wide whitewall tires and the coveted Sombrero wheel covers with the red Cadillac crest in the center.

This Caddie convertible benefitted from a frame-off restoration 20 years ago. An electric fuel pump has been added, and the power convertible top is new, as is the boot cover.

It has been awarded a first-place badge by AACA and a premier award by CCCA. It is a dependable tour car, completing in several CCCA caravans, showing well with few blemishes. As testament to its dependability, it was driven from New Jersey to Florida in 2018 with no issues.

Let’s call this ’47 Caddie what it is: an excellent CCCA tour car that auto enthusiasts would be proud to show on a tour, concours or country road.
