1949 Packard Station Sedan Woodie

The last of the iconic Packard Woodies
J. J. Best Banc & Co.

This beautiful 1949 Packard Eight Station Sedan Woodie is powered by a straight 8 engine displacing 327 cubic inches. This engine was rebuilt and produces more power than the 288 H.P. Only 3,864 of these rare Packard’s were built between 1948-1950. This car has an R-9 overdrive and comfortably seats six people and travels at highway speeds. The station Sedan used both steel framing and body parts with structural wood panels to create a "Woodie" station wagon. The Station Sedan used a steel sub frame and steel passenger doors on which hard wood panels were mounted. The rear gate is the only wooden door on the vehicle. Wood lines the cargo compartment with affixed steel strips to prevent scratching. With two-row seating, six can comfortably ride. Seats are covered in a blend of broadcloth and vinyl. The chrome-trimmed dash is painted to resemble wood grain, standard instrumentation including speedometer, oil pressure gauge, amp gauge, temperature and fuel gauges all work.

This car has been well maintained its entire life. It has had only one repaint approximately 20 years ago. All wood is original and revarnished. It is showing moderate wear, but very solid except for the tailgate wood which has been replaced. All glass is original and clean except for the front vent windows which are showing original age with minor delaminating. All gauges work including the radio. The radiator was recently boiled out and gas tank recoated. The transmission has been rebuilt as were the brakes. The tan interior is original and in beautiful condition. The door panels are as equally nice. The chrome is excellent all around. The sun visor was an option in 1949 and installed as original equipment. This fantastic Packard drives as good as it looks and will give the new owner miles driving pleasure. It is one of the many Packard’s from the Gene Terashawty collection.
