1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

as powerful as you could want
J. J. Best Banc & Co.

The Trans Am was a specialty package for the Firebird that upgraded handling, suspension and horsepower. The final redesign of the original F-body Firebird took place in 1979. To differentiate from the base Firebird, the Trans Am taillights were covered with dark lenses, and the split grille was redesigned to a gently sloping, contoured urethane nose with four inset headlights.

1979 marked the 10th anniversary for the Trans Am, and it’s easy to see why two of the special editions were chosen as pace cars for the Daytona 500 that year.

This striking 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was delivered new by Park Pontiac of Kissimmee, Florida and has been well-maintained in its original condition ever since. It spent its entire life in central Florida until it was purchased by an Ohio couple in 2018 and has since covered less than 2,000 miles.

The iconic Firebird adorns the hood of this Cameo White exterior trimmed with gold decal graphics. Under the hood a 6.6 litre, 403 CID V8 engine powers a high-energy ignition system with automatic transmission, and the Firebird decals and the shaker hood give it the iconic look that car enthusiasts admired in the movie Smokey and the Bandit.

The console gauges include a rally clock and tachometer. Other interior options include factory air conditioning, power windows, seat belts and a Delco-GM AM/FM stereo radio with dual rear radio speakers. The Formula steering wheel, dual mufflers and side splitter tailpipe extensions add to the sporty look, and the 7-inch rim cast aluminum snowflake wheels are the finishing touch.

The bucket seats and trim are in Camel Tan. The interior is flawless and looks as though no one ever sat in the back seat! The original window sticker and owner’s manual give you even more info. New tires were installed at 24,904 miles, according to service records that also come with the vehicle.

The condition of the Firebird’s interior and exterior are testament to its meticulous care, and the 6.6 liter engine is as powerful as you could want. Offered from an estate, this is a sleek classic that will give many miles of thrilling driving.
