The Packard 180 was first introduced in 1940 and was Packard’s top of the line vehicle. It served as a replacement for its V12 automobiles from the previous years. The Packard 180 was given a 356 cc engine inline 8 cylinder that produced an astonishing 160 hp. Packard proudly acclaimed it was the most powerful 8 cylinder engine on the market. Though most of the other series 110, 120, 160 and 180 were similar in body styling, the 180 had esteem status and was know for its exquisite interior detailing, including wood trim and vanities. Its lush carpets and superior fabrics fitted to its interior were presented in a prestigious manner. Only 1900 Packard 180’s were built in 10 various body styles. Each one is rare and unique to its own specifications. The custom body era was drawing to a close by 1940 but Packard continued to offer a line of catalogued custom offerings. Packards have become highly desirable. Recognized by the CCCA as a full classic, this 1940 Formal Sedan is perfect for long tours or weekend drives. It represents an era of Packard known for its quality. This remarkable car has been shown at Amelia Island Concours in 2014, where it is pictured on page 27 of the Packards International Magazine (Winter 2014). After that show, it participated in the CCCA Caravan in Georgia and then on the Millenium Tour in Florida. It was judged at the 2015 CCCA annual meeting in Savannah, Georgia and scored 96 points (See Classic Car, Summer 2015). The car runs smoothly at 70 mph, as it has a factory overdrive. The Diamondback radials add to its comfort and driving ability. The lovely Centennial Blue paint is well preserved; it was painted about 10 years ago. The tan cloth top is still in immaculate condition. All the chrome and glass are in excellent condition. The back seat is separated from the front by a division window. Both compartments are upholstered in lovely gray wool, which was restored and still flawless. In addition to the large rear seat, there is a side facing jump seat on one side and a compartment for storage with 2 removable footrests. There are heaters in both the front and rear compartments. In the rear, vanity mirrors and perfume bottles are on both sides. This car needs absolutely nothing and is ready for any CCCA Caravan or comfortable road trip.
