CollectorsNotes
This elegant 1948 Packard Super Eight Victoria presents beautifully in Packard Ivory, a period-correct and timeless shade that highlights the graceful, sweeping lines of Packard’s 22nd-Series design. The exterior is complemented by a tan convertible top and a tasteful brown cloth and vinyl interior, creating a warm, classic palette that enhances the car’s refined prewar-influenced styling. Wide whitewall tires complete the look, and the car now rides on a brand-new set of Diamond Back radial wide whitewalls, adding both authenticity and improved drivability.
Beyond its handsome presentation, this Super Eight benefits from over $22,000 in recent mechanical and cosmetic servicing, as extensively documented in the attached repair summaries and invoices. Notable work includes a new mechanical fuel pump, addition of an electric backup fuel pump, radiator and block flush, thermostat and sending-unit replacement, as well as sandblasting and refinishing of the thermostat housing and other under-hood components. The brakes were adjusted, the front fender had minor repair and fresh paint, and numerous systems were cleaned, repainted, or lubricated as part of a broad mechanical freshening. The car also received greased chassis fittings, topped-off master cylinder fluid, and a full replacement of the passenger window regulator—a repair requiring substantial labor due to internal adjustments.
Significant attention was also given to the lighting and electrical systems. According to the invoices, the entire wiring harness saw extensive work, including multiple repairs, replacements of housing and connectors, and installation or restoration of front and rear lighting functions. The horns were disassembled, cleaned, and adjusted, and new gaskets, seals, and fluids were added throughout. The bumpers were removed, disassembled, replated, and reinstalled—an involved cosmetic improvement. Additional work included radiator repair, new battery cables, installation of a shut-off switch, and replacement of the ignition and starter button. The wheels were sandblasted, powder-coated, and fitted with new tires, rounding out the refurbishment.
The result is a highly presentable and mechanically sorted example of Packard’s premium postwar convertible—one that combines attractive colors, strong road manners thanks to modern radials, and the peace of mind that comes from a long list of recently completed, documented repairs. It stands as a wonderful representation of Packard craftsmanship and a ready companion for touring, casual shows, or simply enjoying a classic open-air motoring experience.
